Adding Essential Oils to your Sunscreen

From here, you have now learned about how to choose sunscreens. When applying sunscreen, you can add 2-3 drops of carrot seeds essential oil. Note, do not mix directly in the bottle. Put 2-3 drops in your palm and the amount of sunscreen you need. The carrot seed oil has been used to protect hair and skin from damage, clean surfaces, and promote health.  

Making your own Exfoliant with Lemon Essential Oil

After exposure to the sun for a prolonged period, it is important to clean and moisturize them properly. You can do so easily by DIY at home, making your own special and eco-friendly scrub.  

Mix 1 tablespoon jojoba oil with 1 tablespoon honey, 1 tablespoon lemon juice, ⅓ cup granulated sugar, and 4 drops of Lemon essential oil. Gently apply the scrub to your face and massage in a circular motion for about 1 minute. Then rinse it with water and continue with your daily moisturizing routine.  

The lemon essential oil has a fresh, uplifting aroma that cleanses the air and eliminates odours when used aromatically. It is also used to aid digestion, boost oral health, benefit the lymphatic system and act as a natural cleaner. 

It is important to note that lemon oil is photosensitive, therefore after using the lemon essential oil, it is advisable not to stay under the sunlight for the next 12 hours after application to avoid a negative reaction.  

Add Rosemary Essential Oil to Treat Limp Hair

Has your hair gone limp after being exposed to the sun? There is an easy way to fix it., by moisturizing your hair. First shampoo your hair, then before applying conditioner you first apply a hair mask.  

Add 2 drops of rosemary essential oil with 10ml of Witch Hazel Hydrolat Pour it through the hair and massage it through to the end. Leave it on for 5 mins, then rinse it and apply your normal conditioning. This recipe should only be done more than once a week.

We understand the summer beach vibes, and how much you love to go to the beach and enjoy water sports. But Salty water or chlorine is awfully bad for the hair. Therefore, you should give your scalp some moisturizing and sensation treatment to your scalp.  

Add 1 drop each of German Chamomile and Eucalyptus Radiata essential oils to your shampoo. Rub into your scalp to eliminate unwanted buildup with a cooling sensation. 

Fighting Bugs Away this Summer

As the weather gets warmer, another big problem will be the bug problem. Essential oils not only does it give you aroma benefits, but they can also help keep the bug away from you.  

Here is the basic recipe: 

Homemade Essential Oil Insect Repellent Spray (4 ounces) 

  • 2 ounces distilled or boiled water 
  • 1.5 ounces witch hazel or vodka 
  • 30 drops citronella essential oil ** 
  • 25 drops peppermint essential oil ** 
  • 15 drops tea tree essential oil 
  • 1 teaspoon of jojoba oil* (optional, if you add this, add only 1 ounce of vodka or witch hazel) 

 

**Different essential oils help keep different bugs away, you can make your own mixture accordingly. Here is a list of oils that help keep mosquitos, fleas, and ticks away. 

 
Mosquitos – citronella, lemon eucalyptus, peppermint, lemon, eucalyptus, catnip, basil, clove, thyme, lemongrass, geranium, lavender  

Fleas – cedarwood, citronella, eucalyptus, tea tree oil, lemongrass, lavender, orange, pine,  

Ticks – rose geranium, juniper, rosewood, thyme, grapefruit, oregano 

Fleas and ticks are often found in pets; however, it is best not to spray them on your pets as these substances can be toxic to them if applied directly. Alternatively, you can spray them on their beds or spray them on their collar from a far angle. However, please note that it should not be sprayed on cats as many of the substances are toxic to them.  

Since essential oils are strong and concentrated substances, therefore be cautious when mixing them. If you are a sensitive skin type person, it is important to consult a doctor before using them. You should be cautious when using it on young children and pregnant women as well. There are many different essential oils recipes, we are sure you can find one that best fits your needs. Alternatively, essential oils can also be used simply with diffusers to give off an aroma scent and release stress, which is equally beneficial.
