2/ Do not Overdo it

The best practice is to do it twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening. Of course, it also depends on your skin type. However, there are times you might find yourself having to wash your face for an additional time.

If you happen to sweat a lot during the day or after a workout, it is important to cleanse your face. Sweating is a good thing, as it removes any impurities from your pores. However, leaving it on your face for a lengthy period can cause irritation. It is also important to cleanse your face after swimming, no matter it is in the ocean or in the pool.

Other than having a special situation, it is important not to overdo it. Twice daily is more than enough! Doing it more might remove the natural barriers on the face that is actually good for us.

3/ Consider Double Cleansing

Yes, we just said not to overdo it, and now we are saying double-cleansing. Especially after being out the entire day, you might have your makeup on and have already been exposed to a lot of dirt. It is best to remove them first before using the cleansers.

Use a makeup remover or facial wipes, to remove any dirt and makeup on your face. After that, you can continue your face wash procedures with your cleansers.

For males, if you need a shave. It is also best to wash your face once before and once after your shave. Washing before helps remove some dirt and it also softens the wiry hairs, making it easier to cut through. Cleaning it after the shave helps remove any leftover shaving foam or gel left on your face.

4/ Exfoliate Regularly

Exfoliation is necessary but it does not need to be done daily. It is best to do it 2-3 times a week, and sensitive skin types can do it once a week. Before doing it, you should first use your regular cleanser to cleanse off the dirt once first before using exfoliate. And once again do not overdo it as it can remove the natural barriers.

With exfoliation, you can use face scrubs or masks, whichever options suit your needs. Below are two great options that you can choose from.

5/ Cut Out the Unnecessary Tools

The best tools to wash your face are your fingertips. There are a lot of tools out there said to help cleanse your face better, such as sponges, brushes, and machines and they are not the best options.

Face cleansing needs to be gentle, all you need to do is to use the right amount and massage out the cleansers over your face properly. Using other tools might be slightly too hard on the skin, which might end up scrubbing away the important barriers. Moreover, the cleanliness of the tools is important. Unless you constantly cleanse them with bleach solutions these tools can trap a lot of dirt which can irritate your skin.

Therefore you do not need anything else other than your fingertips. On a side note, you should always wash your hands with soap before starting your cleansing procedure too!
