UPGRADE YOUR BASIC SKIN CARE ROUTINE IN 5 SIMPLE STEPS

You are doing great! The fact that you are here means you already have a skincare routine that is working for you. So, are you ready for a upgrade? Now you might think that an upgrade means spending more and buying expensive products. But no, upgrading your skin routine is much simpler than you think. By now you already know what works for your skin, how it reacts to different types of ingredients etc. Hence adding 1-2 more steps to your already established routine is going to be an easy one.

Upgrading your skincare routine not only means more nourishment for your skin, it also provides you with a chance to address any specific skin concerns you may have, like acne, spots, blemishes, and dry patches to name a few. NUWA Beauty is here to help you make these small tweaks and additions to your routine, that are affordable and can have long-term skin benefits.

1. Don’t hold back on a good scrub

Giving your skin a good scrub once or twice a week can help you exfoliate and get rid of any dead skin cells. There are various kinds of scrubs, including physical scrubs that physically exfoliate the skin with microscopic particles and chemical scrubs that remove dead skin cells using enzymes or acids. However, don’t overdo a scrub especially if you have sensitive or dry skin, as it can strip your skin off its natural oils.

2. Double cleanse

This one is simple and nothing as fancy as a scrub. A double cleanse simply means washing your face twice. Start by using an oil-based cleanser to take of the make-up. An oil-based cleanser is much richer and helps keep your skin feel plump and soft. Follow this by using a water-based cleanser to remove any leftover impurities and give you feeling of freshness. This simple and easy step can make huge difference in your overall skin health and appearance.

3. Invest in a good serum

Face serums are all the rage currently, and for good reason. They are concentrated doses of active ingredients like Vitamin C or E, retinol, niacinamide, hyaluronic acid etc. that target specific skin concerns. The best part about adding a serum is that they last really long, since they are concentrated formula’s, you don’t need more 2-3 drop for each application. All in all, they are great investment for your pocket and skin!

To help address specific skin concerns, consider the below:

·         Hyaluronic acid: The top layer of your skin’s barrier function is strengthened by hyaluronic acid, which also helps to lock in moisture and prevent moisture loss.

·         Vitamin C: Helps bring back the glow on your skin and decreases dark spots with continued use

·         Retinol, vitamin B3 & peptides: Help to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, proteins in the body that help prevent appearance of lines and skin sagging.

·         Colloidal sulfur, niacinamide: Helps to calm redness and irritation by decreasing inflammation, and improve acne with its antimicrobial effects.

4. Mask up!

Every now and then treat yourself to a spa day at home! Just prop your feet up, put on a good movie and let a mask work its magic on your skin. Today masks are easily available in so many ingredients combination and forms like clay, sheets, and creams. They are a great way to unwind while allowing your skin to hydrate, leaving it refreshed.

Pro tip: Except for sleep masks, which can replace your nightly moisturizer, apply masks after serum but before moisturizer. Masks should be used sparingly, no more than once a week to prevent irritation, like any supplement to your usual routine.

5. Use a toner

Toners are most underrated and underestimated part of a skincare routine. They not only help balance the PH level of your skin, but also help tighten your pores and prepare for the next step in your routine. Toners are also a great way to treat any specific skincare concern you may have as some of them come with active ingredients and are available for types of skin. Some hero ingredients that you look for in a toner include:

·         Alpha and beta hydroxy acids to gently remove dead skin cells that can clog pores, improve sun-damaged skin and minimize dullness.

·         Hyaluronic acid to boost hydration, seal in dewiness and plump skin to subtly treat fine lines.

·         Rose water and green tea to calm irritation and reduce redness with an anti-inflammatory effect.

·         Vitamin E and C to fight daily exposure to free radicals that can age your skin.

Pro-tip: The best results come from using clean hands to apply toner. Simply place a few drops in your palm and apply them there. Or, if you’d rather, separate a cotton pad so that it’s not as thick before applying toner to it. The majority of solutions can be applied morning and night, however those that contain exfoliating acids may be better utilized exclusively at night or once every other day.

That’s all there is to it! You can give your skincare routine a much-needed update with these 5 simple and inexpensive methods. Try different things until you find what suits your skin the best. And never forget that being consistent and patient is the most crucial thing. Although you won’t see results right away, if you put some effort into it and use the appropriate products, you’ll have glowing, healthy skin in no time. Enjoy your skincare adventure!
